How to Prepare for Your House Cleaner (and What to Expect)

How to Prepare for Your House Cleaner (and What to Expect)

A little preparation helps your cleaner spend the visit cleaning instead of working around clutter, and makes sure nothing you care about gets missed. Here is what to do before your first house cleaning, what happens on the day, and what to do after, based on how a Clensy visit works.

When You Book

  • Book online and see your price first. On our booking page you enter your home's size, bedrooms and bathrooms, the type of clean and the visit frequency, and you see your price before you book.
  • Pick the right clean. A routine clean keeps a home in shape; a deep clean is for a first visit or a home with buildup; a move-out clean is for an empty home. Our deep vs. regular guide explains the difference.
  • Add your notes. Tell us about allergies, product preferences, rooms to skip, or anything you want extra attention on. Notes given to the office go straight onto your account for the team to follow.
  • Choose a day and time. We clean seven days a week, and you can book early mornings, evenings and weekends. Weekend slots can fill up, so book ahead if you need one.
  • Request a preferred cleaner or time. You can request a preferred cleaner. We save your preferences on your account and try to honor them when we plan the schedule, though it is not guaranteed every visit.

After you book, you will receive a confirmation email or text within 2 hours with your appointment details and our phone number for any questions.

Plan How We Get In

You do not need to be home. You can leave a key, a lockbox code or a garage code, or give us entry instructions. If you have an alarm, include the code and how to arm and disarm it. Your access details are kept private on your account.

Make sure access works on the day. If no access is arranged and no one is home, a lockout fee applies and the visit has to be rescheduled.

The Day Before

  • Pick up clutter. Put away clothes, toys, papers and mail. Your cleaner does a light, 5-minute tidy of each room, so the more surfaces are clear, the more of the visit goes to cleaning.
  • Put away valuables and fragile items. Secure jewelry, cash, and anything very valuable or delicate before the visit.
  • Leave linens on the bed if you want them changed. Beds are made and linens changed when fresh linens are left on the bed.
  • Decide on dishes. Sinks are scrubbed and disinfected; dishes are done on request, so say so if you want them done.
  • Clear the way. Make sure the rooms you want cleaned are open and reachable. We do not move heavy furniture unless it is arranged ahead of time.

Supplies, Pets and Kids

You do not need to buy anything. We bring all the equipment and tools, and safe, traditional household cleaning supplies. If you prefer eco-friendly or specific products, we are happy to use yours: tell us when you book or tell your cleaner when they arrive.

Friendly pets can stay home, though a separate room keeps them calm and out of the way. Please secure any aggressive animals. Children are welcome to be home; young children should be supervised by an adult and kept away from the areas being cleaned.

What to Expect During the Visit

  • Your cleaner arrives in a Clensy uniform. Our cleaners are background-checked, trained Clensy team members.
  • They work room by room from our cleaning checklist and the notes on your account.
  • Some things are outside what we do: ladders over 2 steps, biohazards, the inside of personal safes, exterior windows, and professional carpet or upholstery shampooing.
  • Payment: a pre-authorization is placed on your card 24 hours before your appointment, and the card is charged after your cleaning is done.

After the Cleaning

Walk through your home when you get back. If something was missed, tell us within 24 hours and we'll come back and fix it free. If a plan changes, you can cancel or reschedule up to 24 hours before your appointment without a fee; changes with less notice may have a rescheduling fee. If you booked recurring cleaning, you can pause it for a vacation and pick it back up when you are ready.
