Regular cleaning and deep cleaning cover the same rooms, but not the same tasks. A regular clean keeps a lived-in home fresh. A deep clean goes after the buildup a regular visit does not reach. This guide uses Clensy's own room-by-room cleaning checklist to show exactly where the line falls, what each one costs, and how to choose.
What Regular Cleaning Includes
Regular cleaning (we call it routine cleaning) is a maintenance clean. On our checklist it covers:
Kitchen
- Sweep, vacuum and mop floors
- Wipe down countertops and the stovetop
- Clean the outside of appliances
- Scrub and disinfect sinks (dishes on request)
- Wipe the outside of cabinets and handles
- Empty the trash
Bathrooms
- Sweep, vacuum and mop floors
- Scrub and sanitize showers and tubs
- Clean and disinfect toilets
- Scrub and disinfect the sink and countertops
- Clean and shine chrome fixtures
- Clean mirrors, hang and fold towels, empty the trash
Bedrooms and Living Areas
- Sweep, vacuum and mop floors, and vacuum upholstered furniture
- Dust surfaces, decor, electronics, shelves, nightstands, bed frames and picture frames
- Make beds and change linens (if linens are left on the bed)
- Clean mirrors and glass surfaces
- Fluff and straighten cushions and pillows
- A light, 5-minute tidy of each room, and empty the trash
What Deep Cleaning Adds

A deep cleaning includes every routine task above, plus:
- Kitchen: the inside of the microwave, the backsplash, a degreased stovetop, tables and chairs, and behind and under furniture.
- Bathrooms: hard water stains removed where possible, grout lines scrubbed, vent covers and ceiling corners dusted.
- Bedrooms and living areas: inside removable couch cushions, cobwebs from corners and ceilings, behind and under furniture, and decor items wiped down.
- Every room: ceiling fans and light fixtures dusted, baseboards and molding wiped, doors, door frames and light switches cleaned, and window sills wiped.
In short, a regular clean covers the surfaces you see and use every day. A deep clean adds the edges, the high spots and the buildup: baseboards, fans, fixtures, grout, door frames and the areas behind and under furniture.

How Much Each One Costs
At Clensy, for a home rated 5 or lower on our 1 to 10 condition scale, a one-time regular (standard) clean and a deep clean compare like this:
| Home size | Standard one-time | Deep cleaning |
|---|---|---|
| 800 sq ft or less | $180.00 | $220.00 |
| 1,200 sq ft | $218.40 | $265.20 |
| 1,600 sq ft | $262.80 | $327.60 |
| 2,000 sq ft | $307.20 | $389.40 |
| 2,500 sq ft | $362.40 | $467.40 |
| 3,000 sq ft | $418.20 | $544.80 |
| 4,000 sq ft | $529.20 | $699.60 |
Recurring regular cleaning costs less per visit: $135.00 to $405.50 for homes up to 4,000 sq ft, depending on size and visit frequency. Homes that need more work cost more, and the booking page shows your exact price before you confirm. See the deep cleaning cost guide and the recurring cleaning cost guide, or our full guide to house cleaning costs in New Jersey.
When to Choose a Deep Clean
- It has been more than three months since your home had a thorough clean.
- You are starting a new recurring cleaning plan and want a clean baseline first.
- Guests are coming and you want every corner covered.
- Dust or allergies have been worse than usual.
If none of those apply and your home is in good shape, a regular clean covers what you need. One way to plan it: one deep clean to reset the home, then recurring cleaning to keep it there.
What About Move-Out Cleaning?
A move-in or move-out cleaning is a third option, built for an empty home. It goes further than a deep clean in the places you can only reach when a home is empty: the inside of all cabinets, drawers and closets, interior window glass, and the inside of the fridge and oven, which are included.
Extras for Either Clean
The inside of the oven ($35), the inside of the fridge ($35), the inside of the cabinets ($60) and interior windows ($5 each) can be added to a deep clean. See the extras page for the full list. We do not offer exterior window cleaning or professional carpet and upholstery shampooing.
Whichever you book, our team follows the same checklist and the notes on your account. If something was missed, tell us within 24 hours and we'll come back and fix it free. See your price and book online.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the main difference between deep cleaning and regular cleaning?
A regular clean covers everyday surfaces: counters, sinks, toilets, showers, mirrors, dusting and floors. A deep clean includes all of that plus baseboards, door frames, light switches, ceiling fans, light fixtures, grout, hard water stains, window sills and behind and under furniture.
How frequently should I get a deep cleaning?
Our comparison lists deep cleaning as quarterly or seasonal, with regular cleaning weekly, every 2 weeks or every 4 weeks in between. The right schedule depends on your household.
Is a deep cleaning worth it before starting recurring service?
It gives the recurring visits a clean baseline to work from, so each regular visit can keep the home in shape instead of catching up.
Does deep cleaning include the inside of the oven and fridge?
Not by default. They are add-ons on a deep clean at $35 each. They are included in move-in and move-out cleaning.
How much more does a deep clean cost than a regular clean?
For a 1,600 sq ft home rated 5 or lower on our condition scale, a one-time standard clean is $262.80 and a deep clean is $327.60.
